Gujarati speaking counsellor — Sydney and online across Australia

ગુજરાતીમાં થેરાપી

If you’re looking for a Gujarati speaking counsellor in Sydney, or anywhere in
Australia, I offer therapy in Gujarati, and also in English. I’m Vidhi Thakkar, a PACFA registered
Clinical Counsellor based in Western Sydney, working online nationwide.

સમગ્ર ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયામાં ઓનલાઇન સત્રો. કોઈ રેફરલ કે નિદાનની જરૂર નથી.

Common questions

Why does therapy in your first language matter?

Because you shouldn’t have to translate your family before you can talk about them. Explaining why a particular expectation carries the weight it does takes twenty minutes in English and no time at all in Gujarati. The session goes further.

Do I need a referral to see a Gujarati speaking counsellor?

No. There’s no GP referral, no Mental Health Care Plan and no diagnosis required. You book directly.

Will my sessions appear on my medical record?

No. Counselling isn’t Medicare rebated, so nothing is recorded against your Medicare history and no letter goes back to your GP — who may also be your family’s GP.

Can I have sessions if I live outside Sydney?

Yes. Sessions are online across every state and territory in Australia. Walk-and-talk sessions are available in person in Western Sydney.

What if I want to switch between Gujarati and English mid-session?

That’s normal and welcome. Most people move between languages depending on what they’re describing. Some feelings only exist properly in one of them.

What does it cost?

$130 for a 50-minute session, $200 for a 90-minute extended session. The first 15-minute introductory call is free.

What times are available?

Monday to Friday at 6:00am, 7:00am, 5:00pm, 6:00pm and 7:00pm, so you don’t have to take leave or explain an absence.
