What are your session fees?
- Individual Counselling Session — $120 (50 minutes)
- EMDR Therapy — $185 (90 minutes)
I also offer limited spots through Rough Patch Community Practice, which provides affordable sliding‑scale options.
Do I need a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan?
No — counsellors and psychotherapists are not covered under Medicare rebates.
This means:
- no GP referral
- no diagnosis
- no eligibility criteria
- no limit of 10 sessions
- no waitlist
You can begin therapy whenever you’re ready.
Why aren’t counsellors covered by Medicare?
Medicare currently provides rebates for psychologists, social workers, and some mental health nurses. Counsellors and psychotherapists are not included in this scheme, which means your sessions are private, confidential, and not tied to a diagnosis or a GP referral.
Can I still claim through private health insurance?
Some private health funds offer rebates for counselling. You’re welcome to check with your provider to see if your plan includes counselling or psychotherapy.
What can I expect from the first appointment?
- In your first session, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and any concerns you have. This is your time to share your story at your own pace. We’ll also review confidentiality, answer your questions, and explore how we can best support you.
How many sessions will I need?
- This depends on your individual circumstances. Weekly or fortnightly sessions are recommended initially to build trust and momentum. Over time, session frequency can be adjusted to suit your needs.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
- Life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24-hour notice. Without adequate notice, the full session fee may apply unless there’s a valid reason.
Are sessions conducted online?
- Yes, all the sessions are conducted online. The link for the online session will be sent one day prior to your appointment.
Counsellor vs Psychologist — what’s the difference?
Counsellors support emotional distress, life challenges, grief, overwhelm, and coping patterns. Psychologists can diagnose and provide structured assessments. I work relationally and at your pace, without labels.
What about emergency support?
- No, this practice does not provide emergency or crisis support. Sessions are designed for ongoing therapeutic care, reflection, and recovery.
